Location Permission

The location where i decided to film is farmland. Although there was a public right of way in place. i thought it was only right for me to ask the farmer. The farmer said to me that I could film on his land if when i had finished i left his land how it first was, which meant removing litter and not cause any trouble.

Risk Assesment

1) Make sure whoever is driving is completely concentrated on the road ahead; therefore this will prevent any collisions.

2) Make sure the driver is not filming at the same time of driving the car

3) The location of my music video is a public path, which is busy with public walkers and dog walkers, therefore we will have to be observant whilst in the car.

4) Prevent the equipment being damaged by the bad weather

5) When using the tripod the three legs must be secure on the floor, so that it will help prevent the tripod falling and possibly damaging the camera.

6) Only let qualified drivers use the car.

Actor/Performer Decsions

Nico Turner

I chose Nico Turner as an actor because he lives close by to my filming location. Nico is a enthusiastic person who is up for acting. Nico is more than happy to act the role i want him to follow. I chose Nico because i knew that he would be reliable and committed.

Matt Pike

Matt Pike is committed and reliable so i knew he would be happy to act in my music video. He told me that he was available most of his week, which will help me film on a specific day. Matt lives locally and doesn't live far away from my filming location.

Scott Green

Scott was going to be my main actor, i decided this because he was part of other music videos and thriller films, this therefore gave me a chance to see his ability to perform. I think Scott will fir the role of the the main band member well.

Wednesday

Location

I have chosen the location of Common Lane, in Bramcote, I decided to use this location because the location is close to my house so it is convenient for me to film there. Also Common Lane is a long narrow country like road, this is perfect for my music video as this kind of location is what i had in mind, so it fits in nicely with my previous ideas.

Treatment

Using the track ‘Hurry Now’ by ‘The Kax’, I repeatedly listened to the track in order to gain and create ideas for my music video. From this I have came to the decision that my music video has to be different and maybe a little comedic, this is because the typical indie conventions are mixed between serious and funny music videos. I am unable to look at the music video of this song, because a video has not been produced, therefore it has been difficult to create ideas and sum up what the band are like. However I have been able to view other music videos from indie bands, this has gave me inspiration. I was mainly inspired by Bombay Bicycle Club and there song Evening/Morning.

I have decided not to make a mainstream music video which is usually narrative and lyric driven; therefore the film is based on what the words mean. Instead I want to make a music video a bit more interesting and appealing. My music video will be mainly based on performance of my three actors. I will use a variation of shots in order to create a good music video, this will help me fill the duration of the music track.

The narrative of the video is going to be a bit different to typical music videos. The opening shot of my music video is going to be a tracking shot from left to right of two of my three actors, the next scene will be a long shot of the two actors walking towards the camera, and then we will see the third and main actor run through the middle of the two. The next sequence will be the three running together towards the camera.

The following sequence will be the main actor with a guitar playing and singing in the middle of a field. Then I will flick to the main actor and a close up of his face showing him singing. Next I will cut back to another reverse tracking shot of the three actors.

Research into Websites

Girls Aloud
• The main font used for ‘GIRLS ALOUD’ is bold and dull in colour, this is makes the ‘GIRLS ALOUD’ stand out because of the background images of all the girls of the group, they are all wearing bright, flamboyant colours which make them stand out to the audience.
• The layout of the website is simple and effective, making it easy for the audience to navigate around the website.
• There is a video to be watched on the left of the screen. Videos can be selected by the audience to watch, this shows a sign of a good and popular website. Videos allow the audience to interact with the group.
• The links on the website are; The Girls; Gallery; Diary; GA Style, Chat; Music and Videos; GA Club; Shop; Mobile; GA Games and Sign Up. The links are both expected and unexpected. We would expect links such as Music and Videos and Shop, but it’s unusual to find links such as Games and Gallery. These links make the website feel and look more interactive to the audience with the girls of Girls Aloud.

Bombay Bicycle Club

This website stands out for me because the pictures look affective and fit into the typical indie conventions. The pictures are simple but make the website look more aesthetically pleasing.

The website is very easy to navigate around with bold links to the other pages on the site. This therefore makes the audience’s visit more enjoyable and pleasing.

The webpage has audio and a video on the page the homepage which makes the website feel more interactive and appealing.

Research into Real Music Videos

'Lose Yourself' Music Video Analysis
Artist: Eminem
Song: Lose Yourself

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xFYQQPAOz7Y

The music video of lose yourself by Eminem is a fast paced video. The video contains a mixture of clips from Eminem’s film ‘8 Mile’, Eminem performing and Detroit, Michigan. All the shots which have been used are fast paced. When we see Eminem performing mainly the shots are low shots looking up upon Eminem, this makes him look powerful and the centre of attention to the audience. The low shot is a typical convention to rap/hip-hop music videos, this is because the low shots make the artist look bigger and more dominant, this helps the artist create the persona that they aim for.

The video opens up with a tracking shot from a helicopter of Detroit, Michigan, this shows the audience the city and both the wealthy and deprived areas of Detroit, fades out are used when the scenes change to another. We then later see more references to ‘8 mile’, showing more deprived areas. Still scenes are very short, with quick cuts between the scenes.

Throughout the video when we see Eminem, the mid shots are used to show his facial expression and his body movement, we see his actions he uses with his hands. The use of his hands makes Eminem look more powerful and intimidating. The use of his hands helps Eminem focus his lyrics towards the audience.

Research into The Kax

The Kax are punk/indie band based just out of Los Angeles, the Kax are formed by singer and guitarist Justin Clay, bass guitarist Stephan Versini, and drummer Drew Gant. The Kax were produced by Scott Gilman, a producer/musician from Boston. Scott Gilman first was in a band, but later decided to score TV and film. He then later scored a series called 'seven days' which ran for 3 series, 66 episodes.

He then decided he would further his career by focusing on music and approached the Kax, and then later produced there work.

Existing Album Covers

Red Hot Chili Peppers Album Cover:

• In the bottom left of the cover, there is the end of a guitar and above it some drums, this shows that the genre and style of this album is either rock or indie.
• The image in the middle of the cover of the face also represents the genre of music. The eye is blood shocked this could be there to represent the rock ‘N’ Roll lifestyle the artists have.

Michael Jackson Album Cover:

• This album cover has the dominance of Michael Jackson’s statue, this shows his iconic and ‘King’ status, and it also represents Michael Jackson as being strong and dominant.
• The background is an image of red sky, this also shows his dominance.
• The statue has a spotlight shining upon him; this also shows the size and power in the music industry he had.
• This album represents more the image of Michael Jackson more so than the style and genre of his music.

Red Hot Chili Peppers Album Cover:

• This album cover is another abstract example of CD covers.
• The cover shows the world maybe to be back to front, because the water replaces where the sky should be, and the sky replaces where the water should be in the pool, this may represent the style of album.
• The album cover is colourful and vibrant, but also very unusual, therefore it doesn’t show the genre of music which this album could be.

Q-Tip Album Cover:

• Abstract CD cover from Q-Tip.
• His music is Hip-Hop, R&B genre.
• We see the face of Q-Tip, and his forehead is replaced with other famous artists, such as Bob Marley, and musical instruments. This could show his influences in his music career, which he bases his music on.
• The background of the album of cover is again abstract but looks bleak because of the dull colours which have been used.
• His face and the other iconic figures are all in bright, flamboyant colours which is a contrast to the background.

Reseach into Genres

Indie
Indie music originated in both the UK and US in the early 1980s. The term 'Indie' is often used to describe the production and distribution of Independent underground music. Indie artists often make and distribute their music of their own record labels. Often Indie bands are set up during college or school hoping that word of mouth college radios would help promote them.

Dubstep
Dubstep is a genre of electronic music which root too London's early 2000's UK garage scene. Typically, dubstep is distinguished by its 2step rhythm, or use of snare sounds similar to 2step garage and grime, and an emphasis on bass, often producing "dark" sounds, but just as frequently producing sounds reminiscent of dub reggae or funky US garage. Modern dubstep is becoming more and more mainstream to the fact that the dubstep tracks are remixes of chart music.

Bassline
Bassline is a type of music related to UK garage that originated from speed garage, and shares characteristics with fellow sub genres dubstep and grime for their emphasis on bass. The style of Bassline originated in Sheffield around 2002.
